Industrial vocation
The industrial and productive world of Buttrio is primarily characterized by two major components: the Danieli Group’s industrial complex, a global leader in the production of special steels, and the significant specialization in viticulture and winemaking in the area.
However, despite these two realities that shape the economic fabric and territorial structure, there are several artisanal enterprises operating within the municipality.
In the past, artisanal enterprises were closely tied to agriculture, although in the second half of the 19th century, there was a thriving textile industry, both at the industrial level with two silk processing factories and on a smaller scale with home-based processing of cotton, flax, and hemp. There were also small workshops for tailoring, shoemaking, mechanics, blacksmithing, masonry, and some carpentry shops, which were also involved in chair manufacturing.
Over time, the artisanal structure has become increasingly specialized, on one hand, in service of the large entity represented by Danieli, and on the other hand, in support of a market that has evolved from local to global. This has led to the development of enterprises in the manufacturing sector, especially in metalworking and furniture, as a result of the expansion of the municipal production areas.
